Turns out they are threaded. I just couldn't see the threads - M8s I
think.. I did not get the shafts out, but was able to get it all back
together using a lever to compress the springs. Funny how they come
out easier than they go back in.
Turns out the whole thing was propagated by a delaminated head gasket.
I finally got it all back together last week and she runs great! I
still need to do a little tweaking the carbs
