Subject : [Virago] POP goes the Virago....
I pulled my 1985 xv1000 out of the garage this morning and put it on
the sidestand. I don't normally start it like that---the thing leans
so far over that I think it's gotta be bad for the fuel flow somehow.
Anyway, as I was getting my pack ready I reached over and started it
up and *POW*---something near the front blew.

At first I thought it was a loud backfire and that I only thought I
heard it come from the front, so I started it again. It sounded
awful. I think I heard one cylinder firing plus a "breathy" sound,
and it didn't stay on idle; it just dies without throttle.

Since I was getting to work, I didn't have a chance to investigate. I
put it in the garage and pulled the battery ground, just in case. I
thought I had smelled a little ozone when it first happened.

I just wondered where I might start looking when I get to work on it?
My first guess is the coils, but I'm still learning here. Any
pointers would be much appreciated.

Best,
Bob
