Howdy Tim
Not surprising that tuning to the exhaust gas improved your
performance. A sign of a good shop and mech.
I'm in the process of changing the carb on my KJS manifold and will
probably use the exhaust to get it dialed in but I don't have any base
line data to compare to. From the response I'm guessing that most on
this list don't get that involved with tuning, probably because they
don't have to.
Ride safe.

Hey Ron!
When the shop did the tweaking on my carbs, the mech used the exhaust
gas analyzer to get them set. Unfortunately, I don't recall what the
numbers were (I think the front cylinder was .2 higher than the
rear).
I do know that most, but not all of the popping disappeared and the
throttle was much more linear from idle to red line. Previous to the
adjustment, it was like a turbo was kicking in at around 3500 rpm.
