I do believe you're correct! Rode into work today
and didn't feel or hear anything. Took a spin around the block without the
helmet on too and all seemed well. It was just such a strange thing to hear the
other day. Of course my first panic was that something in the tranny had gone
since I was moving so slowly and using the clutch so much. Whew! Trying to save
up money for house repairs, not the bike!

Subject: Re: [Virago] Front wheel bearing
or . . .?
wa- if no more symptons show up, my guess is that it was just a bit of
pea gravel that was bouncing around. If it was the bearing you'll know it soon
enough.
Going at slow speeds like that, I bet your gas mileage sucked!
As for the karma thing, I'm sure you have built up plenty of the good
stuff.
I was traveling about 10 mph a couple hours ago
sagging a group of bicycles when I suddenly heard a spinning sound like a
ball spinning in a roullet wheel. From the fast spin noise it slowed to
a 'bouncing in a roullet wheel' noise. I stopped at one stop light and it
was still there when I took off again. However, after stopping and
putting it on the center stand and spinning the wheel, I didn't hear anything. And I heard nothing on the last mile to my
house. Is it possible my bearings are okay and I maybe picked up a rock or
small road trash that popped into one of the holes in the wheel hub? Maybe
putting it up on the center stand it was able to fall out?
I hate to take it into the shop if there's
nothing wrong. In the past when a bearing started going bad, I could feel it
while making curves and I didn't feel that now but I didn't get over 30 mph.
If it was a wheel bearing, would I hear it while spinning it freely or
do I have to have a load on it?
Any ideas? Thanks in advance gang!
P.S. During my escorting this morning I made a
spectacle of myself chasing a cage down the road about 2 miles with my
bright orange shirt, 4 way flashers and yellow spinning safety light. I was
honking, pointing and waving my arm to get the car to pull over.
Finally the woman driving did while the male passenger watched me pull up
along side them. I shouted "You have a briefcase on your roof!!!" It was
inches from hitting the road when he got out and grabbed it. With the big
smiles on their faces and thank you's I wonder if I almost had me a new
laptop! That is if it had survived the fall. (Good karma deed for the
day!)
