Viragos ugly? I still don't see that, I love the lines of the Virago, better than the bloated look of the UMC. IMHO

Old article.  As we all know, the V-Star replaced the Virago in
Yamaha's 1100cc cruiser class in order to compete in the oh-so
popular UMC (Universal Metric Cruiser) look.  The engine's
the same as the Virago, and I assumed the Virago's ability to
out-accelerate the V-Star was a function of the 130+ lb increase
in motorcycle weight.  Turns out there's another factor involved.
The Virago's 40mm carbs were downsized to 37mm on the V-Star.
There goes your performance, the 37mm carbs simply cannot
provide as much combustible mixture as can the 40mm carbs.

This is what I find really annoying about the Intruder 1400.  All
that extra displacement is fed by 36mm carbs when it should
really be fed by 45mm-50mm carbs in order to utilize the extra
displacement at higher (above 4000) rpm range.  OTOH, the
Intruder motor will last forever even if constantly rat-raced.
It's got a 6500 rpm rev limiter, but it gets asthma so bad above
4000 rpm, it's seldom an issue.  Can't beat the Intruder from
stoplight-to-stoplight, though, as long as there's not too much
distance between the lights.
