I might be mistaken, but I believe that I have read that depending on how aggressive of a rider you are, that the Mapam forward controls can come in contact with the ground during hard aggressively taken turns, such as twisties, i.e. Deals Gap this might be something that you would want to keep in mind, when choosing a set of forward controls.

 

I personally have the Jardine forward controls on my '96 XV 1100 and while I have scraped a new set of MAC pipes while negotiating Deals Gap, and other mountain roads at speed, I have never scraped the Jardine forward controls. It is bad enough to hear those pipes scraping, but it would be more alarming to me, to feel the forward controls with my feet on them, coming in contact with the ground.

 

The Jardine's are quite a bit more expensive and not as far forward, or as low as the Mapam's, but I find them very comfortable to use, after getting used to the different location of the controls and I'm long legged at 6' and probably shrinking with age, me being 62 years young now. I was fortunate, that I found a used one year old set through this forum shortly after I got my XV1100 

"VIAGRO" and got them for less than half of the new price, but they were in excellent shape.

 

One of the other problems with the Jardine's is that if you change your pipes over to some brands of aftermarket exhaust they will not clear, as you can see in this photo, they have a very close clearance with the stock front pipe; http://www.pbase.com/iamflagman/image/8851895

When I changed to the MAC pipes I gained clearance, due to the front pipe design of the MAC pipes as seen here;

I do not know if this can be a problem with other brands of forward controls.

While I also have the floor boards that came with the set, I very seldom find myself using them, as the forward controls foot pegs are very comfortable for me and I have used them for over 20,000 miles now.
