"SO.....I was thinking of getting it Dyno'd come
spring. I am hoping that will tell me what needs to be
adjusted.
Will it?
I really don't want to go through another summer of
trial and error, pulling the carbs off every few weeks
to tweak something, I just want to get it running
smoothly and ride it."
Never done it. But as I understand it...
I think you want the pipes sniffed for CO while on the dyno. Maybe all
dynos have this, I dunno about the dyno (hehehe). CO content in the
exhaust tells you the mixture. So you would get a plot of your powerband,
as well as a plot of the mixture vs. RPM. Of course, that's all with the
throttle pinned, so it tells you more about the main jets than anything
else. Still, someone good with tuning might come up with good jetting
suggestions based on the results. Bottom line is that carb tuning is an
iterative process, which is just plain rude as far as I'm concerned! So,
after the change, you gotta get it checked again. Maybe you'll be close
enough, maybe there's another round in store. The better the tuner, the
fewer iterations I'm sure, but y'all know how hard it is to get good
advice.
I've always wanted to mount an O2 sensor in my pipes, but never really
figured out how without welding and messing up the chrome. Plus, the
double wall would be an issue.
