Yeah, I guess  I deserve that.  Was initially a little nervous cuz first
reaction was the deeply recessed rubber fitting would make an awkward solder
connection and thought I might have to make an outboard kluge of it.
Thought this is just the sort of thing that will leave you stranded along
the lonely country road if you don't watch out.

I now realize that the extra red sleeving you can see on that wire proves
that the previous owner had a problem here too and, because it came out so
easily, clearly did not solder it at all.

Which brings me to the real point of this reply, which is:  I'd bet we would
all wake up in the middle of the night screaming if we only knew what
mistakes/kluges/omissions/screw-ups were still living on our bikes from the
previous owners.....

Anyway, it's winter and we're allowed to devote a weekend to lovingly
restoring a broken wire. (grin)
