Subject : Re: how many amps does the Virago battery have???
I screwed up twice a little while ago but I think I came out alright in the
end. (This was on my Ural but the lesson is generic.) I thought the battery
was dead so I got a new one. Got it home and found it was a little smaller
than the old one so it didn't fit the clamps right. I also found out the the
actual problem was a switch on the ground side of the battery. Took out the
switch threw it in the trash and everything was fine. But the new battery
was loose. I am making a plate wide enough to hold both batteries and
putting an isolator where the switch was (the hole is there might as well
use it). I plan to wire vital stuff to the main battery and accessories to
the "spare" battery. The only thing I need to watch is to make sure I don't
let either (or both) battery/ies get so low they draw too much from the
alternator. I also figure that if I throw a trickle charger on them
faithfully when I get home the chances are pretty good I won't have a
problem. I don't plan to add a lot of accessories anyway and I felt stupid
with a good battery going to waste.
