After my oops 2 years ago,
I did a winter's worth of thinking about a trike conversion.
I have 2mb of various XV or XV like trike pics, XV trike drawings lost somewhere in the house and memory of a nice DIY job could be done for under a grand if one doesn't get too carried away with wheels an tires.

Excess weight would be a biggy to me. Non-steering 7 1/4" rear axles are cheap an can be cut down and resplined by most quality shops.
Yes, you will need to flip the pumpkin to best align the drive shaft.
If, rotation of the gear unit you find is correct for the Virago drive shaft rotation all the better, but, after discussing the subject with a couple shops it was implied that ring/pinion reverse rotation problems, if any, would most likely be minor with the light weight and HP loading.

IMO....
Drum brakes would be ok but I'd convert to lighter XV disc brakes.
A 2.76 ratio would lower the rpm's though I'd still go a 2.9? or 3.00
Posi unit?? Thinking I'd go open, add a Powertrax unit if needed.
