"I'm curious if you know why that portion of your exhaust is discoloring?
Looks strange to me. I always thought that the farther from the head you
get the cooler things would get. If your engine is running so hot that the
muffler is turning colors I would begin to wonder about the temps at the
head.

It's not uncommon for Cobras and Jardines to do this, because that is where
the plate is in the exhaust baffle. The flow comes down the middle of the
baffle until it reaches that plate, then it has to go out through all the
little holes in the baffle to space between the baffle and the chrome
canister. After passing the plate location, the flow must then go back
through the little holes into the center of the baffle, and then out the
hole in the end. Wherever the flow turns, it concentrates heat. My
Jardines have just a bit of discoloration in the same spot, although it is
much less drastic. My pipes are also discolored where the rear header
takes a turn and where the pipe turns into the muffler. The funny thing is
that I see bikes with all different variations of discoloration on similar
aftermarket pipes, and I don't know what to attribute it to. Riding
habits? Excessive warm up time?
