When I had two carbs with no AIS on my 1000, I had a tee connecting
both carbs to the vacuum advance unit.
To synch, I attached one gauge to the rear carb connector and the other to the vacuum line just pulled off that connector. 
One can connect to the front carb connector the same way.
FWIW I like to synch carbs just off idle (throttle lock or quack tape helps. except for idle, any slop in the carbs connecting linkage is accounted for)
