I seem to remember someone makes a mod that machines the shaft and uses a roller bearing in place of the bushing. About 2 years ago I had a screw shear off inside that held the pawl mechanism to the shaft. It started aout as hard shifting and finally let go while I was in 4th gear. I had to ride it home that way. The screw was about $1. but I had to remove the case to get to it.
