This has been pretty much my observations as well.... but if I can get
rid of the annoying clatter by switching to high test... then what the
heck! The thing with my oil is that unless I keep the oil topped off,
then the oil light comes on periodically... and since this is a handy
warning device I prefer to only see it when it really means something.

Adding a bit of oil from time to time in a Viargo isn't nessecarily blow
by. The top end of this engine is vented in such a way that if you top
up the oil then run above 4K-4500 RPM they tend to purge a bit.
The Virago engine should run fine on 86 octane. I ran the 92 for a long
time and then found that when I hit the "Sweet Spot" with my fuel mix
that the 86 octane runs just fine. At today's fuel prices I would need a
very real reason to put premium in anything I own.
