I had trouble with the wiring also. I guess I didn't really understand
how a relay works. Now I think I do. The main power goes to #30 on the
relay (both of the relays I have seen are #'d the same. The power to the
compressor goes out the opposite side of the relay (#87 I think). The two
terminals on the sides are one to the switch and one to ground. When you
hit the button it completes the ground or power to the relay depending on
which way you wire it and whether the horn is neg or pos ground. I wanted
my new horn on a separate switch so I could use both horns separately.
The loud one for idiots that pull out in front of me and the stock one
just to say hi or get someone's attention without making them go to the
ear Dr to see why they lost their hearing.
I ran a power line from the batt to #30 on the relay direct since
the relay is a 30 amp relay and I couldn't find a line in the fuse box
that was 30 amps. I ran a ground wire to the ground terminal on the relay
(not the one for the switch). Then I ran the power to the compressor from
#87 to the compressor (this maintains the power needed to power the
compressor). Then I ran a power line from a 15 amp fuse (using the power
out side) of the fuse in the fuse box to the switch side of the relay (so
it would work only when the ignition was on), this provides low amp power
to the relay to energize it to allow the power to pass thru the relay to
the compressor (from #30 to #87). You also need a ground to the
compressor. I used the neg ground schematic. I'll try to draw a diagram
to show you and e-mail it if I can remember how to do that. Once I
figured it out it made sense. I'm still looking for a good handlebar
switch (I kinda homemade one) to make it look good. Mike
