Open faced helmets require a windshield at anything over 50mph, at least
mine does, at that or faster it's far worse then the full face for noise
(not to mention staying on your head) but a combo of windshield and open
face helmet does in fact give the rider lots more "awareness" as to sound
and sight.  The difference while riding my Kaw (shield and openface) was
astounding, a head check while merging on the highway really brought it
home, I saw everything clearly, heard it all clearly.  The absence of wind
(via the shield) is what make the full face viable.
