It sure must have cost the Yamaha a lot of money doing all those modifications on their bikes during the early 80's. (rear mono shock to dual shocks, instruments, brakes, engine sizes, air filter mods, headlights etc) Plus the fact that there were similar models but shaft driven or chain driven.

    Thank you for straitening me out on that. I too have the J model. I
don9t see many of them around here, much less the 81 model.
