Carrie,

I've run several different types of spark plugs in my 1997, XV-750, including-- the stock NGK-BP7ES, Splitfire triple platinum TP-6A, and the Bosch Platinum #4238. My bike ran really great on the NGKs and the Splitfires (until the Splitfire's insulator cracked on two different sets), but lousy on the Bosch platinums. I went back to the OEM, NGK plugs and (after enriching my pilot adjustment) started using a hotter running BP6ES in the winter and a cooler running BP7ES in the summer. My advice is don't waste the money on "special type" plugs. You can buy NGK plugs for your bike at discount auto for $1.59 each. The same plug will cost you $3.50 at a Yamaha dealer. To each his own, however, so if you want to experiment; the site below will help you cross reference the OEM, NGK-BP7ES with other types that you might want to try. Good luck.
