add a few comments to what Greg said

1- For general speaker setup, a quality SPL meter is not necessary; a
GBP40.00 Radioshack meter will give good results.
2- Never line-up speakers with spot tones, the room geometry and
acoustic characteristics can really mess things up (if it's right t
1k it can be wrong at another frequency depending on the room))...
The best bet is to line up with broadband pink noise using a long-
term average.
However, I can't stress how important Greg's point r.e. level is when
critically evaluating loudspeakers.
